Newbery Award Winner announced

The Newbery Award Winner for 2009 is "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman. To best illustrate what this book is about, this quote from Mr. Gaiman is most appropriate:

Hey boys! I want to hear from you what your favourite books are. Have you read the Maze of Bones yet by Rick Riordan? It is a new cool series, with cool features. Come and look at the playing cards and try to solve the clues by going on the website.

Korman mania

I get really obsessive about authors and must read everything that they have written. My new craze is Gordon Korman. I am currently reading Juvie three which is an excellent book. Be warned though...it is not the traditional humour we are used to with Korman. Last week I finished Son of a mob. Anyone wanting a good laugh must read this book!

Hunger Games Sequel

I thought everyone would like to know that the sequel to Hunger Games will be coming out in September. The title is Catching Fire. Check out the on-line book club as this month features the Hunger Games!

I don't know where 2008 went but here we are ready to go for 2009. We have lots of exciting programs coming up for all ages. The WOW program this month is Monster Mania where you learn to draw monsters and then get to see them disappear right off the page. How cool is that? Top YA Book 2008

It is really hard deciding which book deserves the honour of being the top pick of 2008. Twilight was a huge hit along with the sequels which I thoroughly enjoyed. This being said, I think that the book which best deserves the best distinction is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I enjoyed the book immensely because it was a quick read, had a disturbing plot and it was well written. Imagine yourself in the future, living in a district controlled by an overpowering State where if you are between 12-18, you may end up in a survivor like battle. The twist is that at least in survivor, you live......
