Books for Boys

Are you finding that your boy does not like to read?  You are not alone.  Boys do not naturally take to reading like girls.  However, once you find the right book for them, they are usually hooked.  Tomorrow night at 7 p.m. I will be talking about boys and books.  The majority of the presentation will center on book recommendations to kick start your boy into reading.  For more information, call the children's desk or email me at mailto:kconroy@cotesaintluc.org.

Movie in the Library

Top 20 Circulating Books in 2009 in the Children's Department

It is exciting to see what people are reading.  It was no surprise that Twilight, along with its sequels, were in the Top 20.    What was surprising was the Book Thief coming in at number 2.  I highly recommend this book.  It is well written and thought provoking as well as emotionally draining.   It was great to see Judy Moody as well as The Lightning Thief.

Mask Making at the Library today

We have our mask making workshop today at 1:00 p.m.   Come and listen to our animator from Vues D'Afrique talk about the history of masks in Africa and then make your own!

Hate List - Jennifer Brown

I am on a roll of reading these days.  I  finished another debut novel yesterday.  Hate List is a gripping tale of a girl, Valerie,  who starts keeping a list of people she hates.  Her boyfriend who is spirraling down a very bad place decides to act on this hate list.  The result is him opening fire in a high school, targeting the people on the hate list.  Valerie must deal with the consequences of this list when she returns to school. 

It was a great story, quick paced and had its emotional times.  The ending of the story was a little odd but overall I would definitely give this book a thumbs up!
